Sending Postage From the US to Canada

When it comes to sending mail to Canada, you should follow the same basic rules as for sending a letter from the US. For instance, in the upper-left corner of the envelope, you should include the sender's full name, street address, city, state, ZIP code, and country. While a US address does not normally include the words "USA", Canada addresses are required to have the country name on the last line of the address. Sending mail to Canada is a simple process, especially if you live in the United States.

Canadian addresses are similar to those used in the US. One notable difference is that Canadian addresses use postal codes rather than zip codes. Also, the recipient's name is listed in the first line of the middle of the envelope, followed by his or her street address and the appropriate prefix. The postal code of a Canadian address is six characters long and should be written in capital letters. Once you know the postal code, the rest of the address will be the same as an US address.

While USPS offers several options for international shipping, it is best to opt for a service that offers guaranteed delivery. While regular USPS rates are affordable, you'll have to shell out more money if you want your package to reach Canada overnight. Priority Mail Express and First Class Mail International both offer guaranteed delivery times of three to five business days. If you're shipping a heavier package or a package with a higher value, consider using UPS instead.
