How to Address a Mail to Be Sent to Canada

Canadian addresses share certain characteristics with U.S. addresses. For example, they use postal codes instead of zip codes. Canadian addresses also include the country's name below the mailing address. On the first line of the middle part of the envelope, write the name of the recipient in capital letters, using the proper prefix. The address must also include the recipient's street name or city. The entire address should be in capital letters, except for the last line where the address is in smaller type.

Canada postage rates are not the same as US postage. First-class mail costs more, but you can opt for premium tracking. Certified and registered mail are less expensive options that can be tracked every step of the way. Packages sent to Canada are fully tracked from their source address in the United States. They are also insured. For additional protection, you can use a tracking number to track your package, from its originating address to its final destination in Canada.

The third line of the Canada address includes the city name. The name of the city should come after the street number. In the case of a U.S. address, the city and postal code are also present. If there is a postal code, it can be used to look up the city and province. The Canadian postal service has a free address lookup tool that allows you to look up an address.
